CASE:
Client:
- Not an accountant.
- Does not have an electronic bookkeeping system.
- Tries very hard to provide a summary of his receipts etc. Most of the information is recorded correctly in the summary. But there are always mistakes – sometimes in picking up the wrong numbers from the invoices, sometimes just calculation mistakes.
- Does not want to pay for bookkeeping.
- Has a bad temper – understandable.
Boss:
- Happy to pick up whatever information the client has provided.
- Knows there are mistakes in the information provided, but reluctant to spend time to check or correct them.
- Does not inform the client about the mistakes, even occasionally there are major mistakes found.
- Is not the one to process the information – always gets the staff to do the work.
- Does not review the work most of the time.
LEARNING:
- Better communication with client – by informing client the mistakes to help them to provide us higher quality information.
- Get the client to go on proper bookkeeping if possible – so they can keep a better track of their own businesses, also they can have a profitability analysis on their suppliers and sales.
- Equip myself with the industry standard – to have a better understanding of the industry the client is in.
- I have to learn to deal with the problem, not the people!!!
