Work series - 21st May 2009

CASE:

Client:

  1. Not an accountant.
  2. Does not have an electronic bookkeeping system.
  3. Tries very hard to provide a summary of his receipts etc. Most of the information is recorded correctly in the summary. But there are always mistakes – sometimes in picking up the wrong numbers from the invoices, sometimes just calculation mistakes.
  4. Does not want to pay for bookkeeping.
  5. Has a bad temper – understandable.

Boss:

  1. Happy to pick up whatever information the client has provided.
  2. Knows there are mistakes in the information provided, but reluctant to spend time to check or correct them.
  3. Does not inform the client about the mistakes, even occasionally there are major mistakes found.
  4. Is not the one to process the information – always gets the staff to do the work.
  5. Does not review the work most of the time.

LEARNING:

  1. Better communication with client – by informing client the mistakes to help them to provide us higher quality information.
  2. Get the client to go on proper bookkeeping if possible – so they can keep a better track of their own businesses, also they can have a profitability analysis on their suppliers and sales.
  3. Equip myself with the industry standard – to have a better understanding of the industry the client is in.
  4. I have to learn to deal with the problem, not the people!!!
